Rumus dan Contoh Kalimat Simple Past Tense Positif Negatif Interogatif

Simple past tense adalah pola kalimat sederhana untuk menunjukkan aktivitas yang telah terjadi di masa lalu atau waktu lampau.

Apa itu Simple Past Tense?

Simple past tense digunakan untuk menyatakan kegiatan atau tindakan yang dilakukan oleh subjek di masa lalu.

Keterangan waktu kejadian yang biasa digunakan dalam pola kalimat simple past tense antara lain: yesterday, last night, last week, a minute ago, a year ago, in 2020, in June, on that day, at six o'clock, dan sebagainya.

Selain itu, simple past tense dibentuk dari kata kerja atau verb 2 (V2/past tense) atau linking verb (was/were).

Verb 2 merupakan bentuk dasar verb (bare infinitive) dengan tambahan -d, -ed, -ied, -en, -t, -n untuk jenis regular verb, atau bentuk tidak konsisten pada jenis irregular verb.

Contoh regular verb untuk past tense: love>loved, like>liked, enter>entered, call>called, marry>married, play>played, laugh>laughed.

Sementara contoh irregular verb: build>built, sing>sang, drink>drank, fly>flew, read>read, go>went, dan sebagainya.

Fungsi Simple Past Tense

Dikutip dari buku Belajar Tenses Bahasa Inggris (2023), berikut fungsi dari penggunaan pola kalimat simple past tense.

1. Simple past tense berfungsi untuk menunjukkan aktivitas yang terjadi di masa lalu atau sudah lewat.
2. Simple past tense digunakan dalam kalimat pengandaian atau conditional sentence tipe 2.
3. Simple past tense digunakan saat ada kejadian yang terjadi bersamaan di masa lalu.
4. Simple past tense berfungsi untuk menunjukkan aktivitas di masa lalu setelah aktivitas yang lainnya selesai dilakukan (kronologis).

Rumus Simple Past Tense

Untuk membentuk kalimat berpola simple past tense, dibutuhkan rumus atau formula. Simple past tense menggunakan kata kerja lampau yakni verb 2 atau to be bentuk lampau (was/were).

Khusus bentuk kalimat negatif dan interogatif menggunakan kata kerja V1 karena bentuk lampaunya sudah diwakili oleh kata did, sehingga verb-nya kembali ke bentuk awal yaitu V1.
